MORE movie talk!

Posted by [info]tedprior on 2009.12.24 at 09:01
First of all, I updated my last two posts to include the answers and the "also rans", so if you didn't notice that, go and check out the lists and let me know where I am wrong (I am not wrong).

Favourite movies of 2009

Least favourite movies of 2009

But, more importantly, my lovely wife has her annual worst-movie-reviews featuring the movies on my list that she had to sit through. (Except for Fast & Furious, which she secretly loves). Check it out here!

I couldn't find a photo of him eating shit and looking for one was making me sad.

Whichever one you're into, enjoy it.

Besides my Mom briefly straying from God's path in the mid-80's, being seduced, like many religious people, by Lee Major's stuntwork, and renouncing our faith and joining a FALL GUY cult, my family has always worshiped the elders from the SHAZAM TV show. While I went through that normal teenage period of discovering eastern religion (KUNG FU: THE LEGEND CONTNUES, MAGNUM PI), and questioning the logic of the faith of the people around me (how can a TV show get canceled for my sins? Will the second coming, a Hollywood remake, ever really happen?), I had an intense experience that brought me back to Shazamity. I was painting a huge mural of The Commodores on my living room wall, indulging in my old, bad habits of being naked and squinting, and loving Lionel Richie's hair, and as I finished my artwork, I took a step back and realized I had accidentally painted the elders. I fell to my knees, all doubt being lifted from my soul. The sound of the smooth jazz I used to listen to when I strayed, became a choir of angels. I felt the doubt being torn from my mind by the invisible hand of Jackson Bostwick. 'They don't move their mouths because they don't have to, not because of budgetary constrictions ', I thought. And since then my life has been fulfilling in that way that only telling the same story over and over again, and acting righteous about everything can make it.

These shirts were designed by my friend Pete Toms, a.k.a. [info]silenceinspades, a.k.a., colorist on my [info]massivefictions comics. (Note the old-world craftsmanship on the Ensign Smurf inspired denim shirt.)

NOTES -

Three of the movies were released in the US last year, but here in Australia this year.

One of the movies is a straight to DVD release.

I only counted movies I made it all the way through - which kept three real stinkers off the list.

EDIT

OK, only about half of them were figured out, but that is not surprising, since most people wouldn't sit through these turds.

Answers... )

The three movies I had to turn off:

Igor
The Goods: Live Hard Sell Hard
Observe and Report

Movies that looked like they would have made the list had I seen them:

Confessions of a Shopoholic
Knowing
Probably a heap of others...

Jess will be posting reviews of a few of these terrible, terrible films today.

holidays

This year my largest gifts on behalf of friends and loved ones are donations to charities they specified or I wish to support.

Wiley didn't specify, so his gift went to the German Shepherd Rescue of California, where it's helping less fortunate dogs with their medical bills.

Happy Holidays!

The health care thing is really freaking me out. As an artist who is frequently sick in one way or another, I'm on tenderhooks about the public option, but the allotment of coverage is really really scaring me. Especially because while the rights and money for women's care (including abortions and birth control) are being disappeared, meanwhile this health care bill will totally cover Viagra!
Aaaaugh.

Speaking of insane ladymedicine things, yesterday I received the single most disturbing piece of mail to ever cross my hands.
What list am I on that I get this kind of thing?

Every winter, my internet service gets cranky in the cold, so I finally got my service back this morning after almost a week. To fill my need to stare at screens while I was internetless, I watched movies. I doodled my way through Harry Potter 6-- You can see my silly drawings here: Harry Potter Doodles

I have a neat interview up over on the Hideous Energy Comics Blog. We talk music, books, all kinds of stuff!

Here are some Holiday Tips!

Hey kids! Are you still looking for some things to buy for your friends and family for the upcoming Holiday Season (tm)? I know I am. Here are a few suggestions to make things easier. I hope you like them!

I love the fun drawings and the hilarious scenes depicted in these flip books! I think just about anyone would like one of these. If they don't like them, then I would cancel your friendship with them.

My friend Beth makes these great paintings of birds and other animals. She also has a lovely calendar full of drawings of food that will tell you what is in season here in Michigan. Useful in Michigan, maybe not as useful in Florida, although I think the dates are still the same.

My craft show pal Abbey makes the most awesome finger puppets I have ever seen. Do you know how much I love them? Very much. The answer is very much. (Steve Martin?! Wes Anderson movie casts!? Wow.)

Jessica McLeod makes the cutest comics in the WORLD. And that's no joke-she lives in AUSTRALIA, which is not where I live. This goes to show you that I scoured the entire world for cute comics and she is the winner.

My good super pal Lisa makes just about the most amazing block print towels in the world. Check your copy of Better Homes and Gardens this month! Some other magazines people read! She is in there. Well, her towels are in there. She is not. She is in her studio is Michigan printing her fricking arm off so you can have towels for the Holidays. Isn't that sweet?!

I have been gaa-gaa for Sharon Van Etten's music the past few months. She was just featured on NPR's Song of the Day, so you know it has to be good! You can buy her record right from her so she can put all of the money in her pocket, instead of only getting 25 cents and the record company using the rest to sue your Grandmother.

My pal Box Brown is looking for a little help to publish his next great project. Through Kickstarter, this cool website where people can pledge to help get projects off the ground, he is soliciting donations. If you donate to help him raise money for the project, you'll get free comics! Plus drawings, more comics, love, and warm fuzzies for being cool. You can donate a lot or a little. Did I mention free comics? Box is one of my favorite cartoonists, as well as one of my favorite people. Below is a Venn diagram that explains where he fits in. I hope it helps you make the right choice about giving a gift to him, to yourself, and to the comics world!

I was very excited to tell you about my holiday gift picks this year, because one of them was supposed to be the first volume in the long-awaited Complete High Maintenance Machine diaries! The book arrived in late November and almost every copy was ruined because of some binding problems, and I have been patiently waiting for replacements. I got word today that they printer will not be sending them any time soon, so it's back to the drawing board for me! Anyone have any good printer suggestions? I am so sad about this.
